Amongst the "Rooiflappie" blooms (Afrikaans name, pronounced Roy'fluppy ) sits the swallow which has long been a symbol of new beginnings. It is also considered an omen that something good will happen soon to the person who sees it first thing in the morning.
This is part of my September series "Ode to Spring" which celebrates all this piece symbolizes; as each year spring brings us the joy of the new beginnings in nature.
